Georgetown 1-0 UConn, FT

Georgetown wins the Big East Blue Division by dominating in a win over UConn, the Huskies’ first conference loss of 2010. The best UConn can hope for is a #2 seed in the Big East Tournament. Seeding will be settled after Saturday’s matches.

#2 SEED IF:

  • UConn wins @ Pitt AND Georgetown wins/ties @ Notre Dame
  • UConn ties @ Pitt AND Georgetown wins @ Notre Dame AND West Virginia loses @ Providence

#3 SEED IF:

  • UConn wins @ Pitt AND Notre Dame wins v Georgetown
  • UConn ties @ Pitt AND Notre Dame wins/ties v Georgetown AND West Virginia ties/loses @ Providence
  • UConn loses @ Pitt AND Notre Dame loses v Georgetown AND West Virginia loses @ Providence

#4 SEED IF:

  • UConn ties @ Pitt AND Notre Dame wins/ties v Georgetown AND West Virginia wins @ Providence
  • UConn loses @ Pitt AND Notre Dame wins/ties v Georgetown AND West Virginia wins/ties @ Providence

All things considered, a once-extremely promising season has suddenly become a fight to grab a 1st-round bye in the Big East Tournament. This all stems from UConn’s seeming inability to win a big game on the road, where they are 2-2-2 (the two wins coming over South Carolina and Providence), while posting a 7-0-2 record at Morrone Stadium, including nationally-televised wins over USF and West Virginia.

If UConn manages to obtain a #2 seed, they will receive a first-round bye in the Big East Tournament and play the winner of the 3Red/6Blue matchup at Morrone Stadium on Saturday, November 6. If they get a #3 seed, they will play the #6 team from the Red Division (Rutgers, DePaul or Syracuse, tied for 6th with 3 points each). If they receive a #4 seed, they play the #5 team from the Red Division (likely to be St. John’s). Either of these possibilities will result in a home fixture on Wednesday, November 3, at Morrone Stadium.
